WHAT WE DO

About ECAQ

We are Evangelical Churches Alliance Qatar (ECAQ). A united network of multi-national expatriate communities of evangelical churches in the State of Qatar, called to live and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are a ministry of many tounges and tribes, a diaspora of Christian believers with purposeful work-based migration for the glory of God.

Formed in 2005, it started from the desire of small group of Filipino churches to gather in one place to pray, worship and fellowship. This desire was transformed into a growing and fervent prayer to have a common house for believers.

Today, ECAQ is one of the recognized religious organizations in Qatar, accorded with an opportunity to build a church and freedom to worship, within the parameters and respect to the host country. With a growing number of member-congregation, majority of which are Filipinos, it has Africans, Indians, South Africans, Arabic Christians, Sri Lankans, Nepalese, Indonesians and Korean churches, with a combined estimate 17,056 individual believers of the Lord Jesus Christ of September 2024.

OUR MISSION

ECAQ promotes and nurtures unity, collaborations and cooperation among ministry organizations, church networks and primarily the World Evangelical Alliance members around the globe and with the Middle East and North Africa Evangelical Alliance [MENA] for the purpose of building, strengthening and expanding the Kingdom of God in Asia and beyond. HOW WE STARTED

n 2005, a small group of Filipino churches gathered in one place to pray, worship and fellowship. This desire was transformed into a growing and fervent prayer to have a common place of worship, a permanent worship building for all the believers in Qatar to practice their faith and worship God freely.

Pursuant to  Article 50 of Qatar Constitution stating; “Freedom to practice religious rites shall be guaranteed to all persons in accordance with the Law and the requirements of the maintenance of public order and morality” and  subsequent Emiri decree, whereby “Christian communities are allowed to establish their own churches and practice religious rites and rituals in the State of Qatar.” The government allocated a vast area of land in the city for the different Christian groups to build their own churches and house of worship.

With all these developments, in the year 2008, Qatar Evangelical Churches Alliance Qatar (ECAQ) was officially formed. Since then, ECAQ members grew in numbers and extended membership and welcomed other Christian expatriate nationalities such as Africans, Indians, Nepalese and Indonesians. Together a multi-national united Body of Christ served and catered to the spiritual and social needs of the believers of Jesus in Qatar. Around 60 congregations were registered as ECAQ members churches.

In the same year, 19th of May, ECAQ officially submitted request of “Land allocation” to the State of Qatar (Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), through  the endorsement of (former) Philippine Ambassador to Qatar H.E. Crescente Relacion.

Then World Evangelical Association (WEA) Secretary General, Bishop Efraim M. Tendero also helped communicate ECAQ’s request to the former Philippine President Mrs. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in time of her visit to the State of Qatar in December 2008.

With faith and prayers not relenting, in October 2013, the government of the State of Qatar granted the land request of ECAQ, allocating a total of 10,079 sqare meters in Mesaimeer area. On 24th of June 2015, ECAQ officially received the lease of contract. The momentous event was officially published in the local newspaper.

Understanding the importance of unity of the Body of Christ, ECAQ had the opportunity of becoming a member of World Evangelical Alliance, providing an unprecedented opportunity to network and understand in a broader context the conditions of the evangelical missions and participate in its global initiatives.

With the growing communities of believers needing a place of worship and with welcoming perspective, ECAQ attracted more multinational Christian ministries to join its fold, prompting the requirement for a bigger space to allocate 129 members churches, with an estimated 15,000 individual members.

On 16th November 2023, the host country awarded a replacement plot of 18,720 sqm (approximately 1.8 hectares of land) to accommodate ECAQ members.

From day 1 of receiving the lot allocation, ECAQ mobilized volunteers from its roster of professional and technical membership to begin the design and planning of the worship center along with an intensive drive to communicate and campaign to all members and its international partners the call to build the hours of the Lord!

At present, multiple committees are organized with focused undertakings, creating fund-raising initiatives in compliance to the rules and regulations of the host country. With one mind and one goal, responding to the call in prayers and in faith, resolved that God will meet all our needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19).

To God be all the glory! Amen!
